The journey so far…..2018   to 2019

2018 was an exciting year for the Alumni as it was the 40th year anniversary of the school.   The Federal  Government College Idoani Alumni Association through it executives and various committees worked tirelessly over the previous year to deliver the mandate geared towards the Association’s mission and vision and supported the School in the celebration of its 40th anniversary which was enjoyed by Staff, Students and members of the Alumni Association.  The various committees and the executive accomplished the following in 2018:

The Renovation and Commissioning of the Alani House Project

The entire Association pooled resources together to renovate the dilapidated Alani House Boys Hostel under the diligent supervision of the Projects and Development The project was commissioned on the 22 of September 2018.

Successful Celebration of the School’s 40th Anniversary

The celebration of the School’s 40th anniversary was carried out in several phases to include an on-site celebration with the Staff and students in Idoani in February 2018, a comprehensive soccer tournament dedicated to Late Mr. Victor Olajorin (2006 Set) that attracted over 200 members nationally and internationally and the commissioning of the Alani House Boys Hostel project in

The Alumni Association has made a significant impact at FGCID not only by major donations and renovations championed by several Sets, but have also been present at significant events of the School. Hon. Jibayo Adeyeye representing the 80s sets (fondly called ”The Ancestors” by sets of the 90s and beyond),  Mrs. Folashade Onajobi represented the Board Of Trustees of the FGC Idoani Alumni Association, Honourable Kola Alabi Chaired the Alumni Day Events while Mr. Francis Obaseki presented the Anniversary Lecture at the official 40th Anniversary Celebration at FGCID in February 2018.

Representatives of the Technical Advisory Committee on Academics and Moral Behavior (TACAM) chaired by Mrs. Chekwube Excellence-Oluye and prominent members of the Akure Mega Chapter (AMC) including the President, Mr. Jaiyeola Olowosuko, Dr. Shade Ade-Johnson and Mrs. Kemi Akinyemi, Mr. Gideon Bakare, Hon. Deji Ebisemiju, Mr. Ugwuja and Mr. Kamal Nassam spent three days in Idoani imparting knowledge on the staff and students through several inspiring presentations.

The completed Alani House Boys Hostel project was commissioned by Mr. Jaiyeola Olowosuko on 22 September  2018.

Thereafter, the Alumni Association organised a fundraising dinner event for Alumni members and sponsors which was held on Saturday 29th of September 2018. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of awards to 40 active members of the association who were honoured as the “40 pillars of the association” in celebration of the school’s 40th anniversary.

One of the recipients of the award was the Late Mr Olamide Olumuyiwa, whose family was present to receive the award presented in honour of his service to the association.

The 40th anniversary celebrations culminated with a celebration at the Annual Reunion which was attended by several alumni who travelled from various parts of the country and abroad to attend the celebration on Sunday 30th of September 2018.  The Principal of the School  at the time,  Dr. (Mrs) Oyinloye attended the Reunion to celebrate with members of the Alumni Association and to thank the Alumni for all their efforts towards a successful 40th Anniversary celebration.

The highlights of the Reunion were the election and swearing in of the new association executives and the presentation of the awards to the most outstanding set and Chapters.  The 1994 set was the most outstanding set for 2018  and the Akure Mega Chapter (AMC) was the most outstanding chapter for 2018

Other significant achievements in 2018 are as follows:

Set and Chapter Elections

Several Sets elected Executive Leaders to represent them on the National Executive Committee (NEC) and at the Association Sets that held elections include 1986, 1987/’88, 1990, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1998, 2001, 2004, 2006. The Akure Mega Chapter also held its election and elected Executive leaders for NEC representation.

Payment of Association Annual Dues

This was a significant goal for It was noted that of all eligible Sets required to pay annual dues, 20 of the 25 Sets (80%) paid Association Annual Dues which is a significant improvement from previous years. It is the goal of the Association to have all eligible Sets pay dues to support the vision and mission of the Association.

Special Interest Groups

In addition to the Healthcare Society (led by Tunde Olujobi which comprise of medical practitioners and individuals from the Association interested in matters relating to Health and Well being) and the Business Society (led by Mrs. Emilola Ajayi which comprise of entrepreneurs in the Association), the Agricultural Society led by Pastor Ope Adeloye has also been inaugurated. The objective of the Agricultural Society is to increase the potential for agricultural network and maximize resources and information.

Synergy between Senior and Junior Alumni Sets

There has been significant synergy among all Association We have been able to maintain love and unity during accomplishments, celebrations and even in times of loss.

Support and Welfare for Members with Devastating Illnesses

The association raised financial resources together to support the preoperative and postoperative treatment of two Alumni members who underwent kidney transplants. paid school fees for a student, engaged in various welfare and humanitarian support for members.

Celebration & Deaths

Just as it is in life generally, while so many celebrations and joyous events and occasion occurred in 2018, the Association also lost some members under various circumstances. Members of the Association have supported  and comforted families of the deceased in their time of grief.  We remember all those who are no longer with us and pray for their families.  May the souls of all the departed rest in peace.

2018 ended on a happy note with several Chapter Christmas celebrations. It has been an awesome year both in the lives of individuals and the Association as a whole.

2019 – The Story so far

Following the festivities, the year 2019 started off wonderfully for the Association and individuals.

The following events have occurred:

Implementation of the Life Insurance Package for Alumni Members

The Welfare Committee worked tirelessly to identify a Life Insurance company and negotiated an unbeatable rate for Alumni members based on our population. The first batch of the Life Insurance scheme was registered on 1 March   There was quite a large number of members of the Association who enrolled for the Life Insurance package.  The next batch for interested individuals is scheduled for September 2019.

It has been an exciting five months with several chapter meetings, class reunions and a recent wedding in the 2004 set – A very big congratulations to the newly weds.

Career and self development:

The Technical Advisory Committee on Academic and Moral Standards (TACAMS) provided a presentation on Career and Self Development on 22 March 2019.  At  the interactive session with staff and Students of FGC Idoani, there was a lot of excitement  around one of the speakers, Col. Arogundade who shared his experience of being a student at Idoani and his career in the Army.

As the year progresses, we look forward to more successes and achievements as an association.
